Student Maps: Map Series 2

James_Park_Map-Series-2_aNETWORK OF CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE IN THE TRIANGLE, NC: 1968-1969

This data visualization maps a robust history and network of civil disobedience as the impetus for change in one of the South’s counterpoints: the Triangle region of North Carolina.

The Triangle is home to Universities that were the impetus for change during the Civil Rights Movement. Acts of civil disobedience mark the 1960’s as students engaged in both violent and non-violent protests. The Triangle inspired change of legislation in the South and had many contributions including founding the SNCC in 1960 and the Allen Building Takeover. The network of these social change initiations is visualized into individuals, groups, and events that significantly framed our present day laws.
