Rice University Library Service Center

This building is located on Rice University’s campus annex and stores rarely-used library books. The building is made from tilt-up concrete. Unlike the traditional method of tilt-up construction in which the walls are poured directly onto the first-floor slab, this project used CNC-milled Styrofoam molds. In a 2010 phone interview with Jimenez, he stated that the design team had experimented with the wall’s profile so that the projections did not cause damage when removed from the mold.
