- World Exposition: Spanish Pavilion
- Aichi, Japan
- Pressing Clay
Designed by Foreign Office Architects (FOA) this pavilion uses custom pressed clay to form the screen tiles of the Spanish Pavilion. The tiles are an irregular hexagon shape. There are six different hexagons and each hexagon either is formed solid or with an opening. Each hexagon is formed with a separate front and back pieces that conceal and are supported by interior metal supports. This process has relatively low capital costs and is good for small to mid-sized production runs. Ceramica Cumella (Barcelona, Spain) was the manufacturer for the tiles.
