Continuing Education
The following programs have been developed for providing continuing education services to design professionals and builders.

  • GB-NC: Design and Implementation Strategies for New Commercial Green Buildings: This is a one day seminar (8 hrs) focusing on daylighting and building energy. It was offered to design professionals, contractors, and other groups interested in sustainbaility in architecture (AIA credits provided). Click here for more information.
  • Design Your Own Continuing Educational Experience: This is a half-day (4 hrs) seminar also focusing on daylighting. It was offered to design professionals (AIA credits provided).

Distance Learning
The emerging technology widely used in the university has made distance learning become more recognized for its potential in creating an educational experience of equal quality for learners to outside the classroom. Currently two existing seminar courses are being converted into distance education version. They are:
ARC 331 Architectural Structures I
ARC 332 Architectural Structures II

Community Outreach
Providing the knowledge and the facilities for understanding sustainable building design principles and technologies to local communities, including K -12 students and teachers. As part of the outreach services, faculties and students are developing educational programs for local communities.

  • Educational Outreach to K -12 students and teachers: Working with K-12 schools in the local area, the programs can be used in their classes to illustrate how basic science principles are being used to develop novel technologies related to buildings.
  • Minority institutions & students: The Raleigh area is one of the fastest growing areas of Hispanic populations in the country. Our program is committed to recruit students from this population to participate in the establishment of the facilities and in the ongoing research for this project. Involvement from historically Black Colleges and Universities, such as North Carolina A&T, will also increase the diversity of our programs. We are also developing distance learning capabilities that can be applied to course offerings that will make learning opportunities related to sustainable building design technologies available to these institutions and to a wide range of other institutions.
  • Research infranstructure as educational tools: The facilities and instruments can be used as educational tools to give science and engineering presentations to the broader community for raising public awareness of energy efficient and environmental friendly building technologies.
