Travis Stratakes

Bio

Travis Stratakes pursued the Master’s Certificate for Energy and Technology in Design. Throughout his studies, he has maintained an interest in the technical aspects of building design, particularly building energy use and technology. In his undergraduate education, civil engineering coursework and building energy courses within the School of Architecture supplemented his core coursework. As a Graduate Student, elective seminars such as Energy Modeling & Simulation, Building Energy Optimization, and Daylighting & Building Technology, along with Independent Study coursework with a focus on the utilization of energy modeling and energy efficiency measures in design, have made up the bulk of his pursuits.

His work with BETlab has primarily revolved around his interest in exploring the utilization of energy modeling and simulation tools along with energy efficiency measures in architectural design work in the studio environment. This research work explores the possibility of using energy modeling tools as a means to more effectively evaluate design strategies with concern for building energy use, and the ability of the architectural student to validate their efforts towards achieving the sustainability goals set for our current and future architectural practice.
